Gold Coins as an Investment

These days a lot of people want to know if they should invest in gold. And the answer is maybe. There are several factors to consider before you decide to invest in gold bullion. Not everyone who trades in gold makes money. In fact it is a volatile market, and that makes it a risky proposition for a retirement account.

Many 401(k) funds will allow you to invest in precious metal fund. Fund managers realize that people want variety and that not everyone has the same risk tolerance. You have to be tolerant of risk if you want to trade gold. Commodities are volatile. Right now gold is on an upswing, but by the time you read this article who can say? There are ways to safely invest in gold. 401(k) rollover accounts just might not be the place for it.

I say that you can safely invest in gold, but what I really mean is you can minimize your risk. That’s really what investing is all about: taking just enough risk so that it pays off. And the only way to do this, is to risk money that you can lose. Of course this does make it a bit more like gambling, and you don’t want to gamble with a retirement account. So I suggest you have a separate account where you can play around a bit. It doesn’t have to be a whole lot of money, but putting a little bit in precious metals fund and seeing what happens will either pay off, or it will cure your gold fever once and for all.

Gold coins cannot be added to a portfolio. As an individual you could decide to buy gold coins. Currently gold coin prices are stable. So again, as a side investment, I don’t see anything wrong with buying, for example, American Eagle gold coins. It’s kind of fun to buy a true gold coins, to have precious metal in your possession. The coins themselves, especially the American Eagles, are quite beautiful. So as long as you realize that this is more of a lark and not a serious investment, have some fun buying gold.
